Now I am making the connection after seeing you on Today's Visions this evening Darren...I thought that the named seemed very familiar and now I realize that I have been following your work for some time....and yes, I am still in total AWE at your incredible talent - there is so much love portrayed in BB's portrait here for his dear Lucille.....I can only imagine the passion and love that he would have for his sacred guitar.....I can see how the air brushing is indeed a big part of your work and it lends such a wonderful softness and realistic feel to your work - kudos to you for the amazing artist that you are and thank you for sharing your talent with all of us here at FAA - Joyce

Artist's Description

Lucille is the name B.B. King gave to his guitar. The story goes something like this: In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit. This was a fairly common practice at that time. During the performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, which triggered an evacuation. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside the burning building. He entered the blaze to retrieve his beloved $30 Gibson guitar. Two people died in the fire. The next day, King learned that the two men were fighting over a woman named Lucille. King named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every guitar he has owned since that near-fatal experience, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women. Blues music is one of my favorites types of music to listen to....

About Darren Robinson

Darren Robinson

I have been drawing and painting for almost 50 years now starting with that first box of Crayola 64 crayons I received when I was five years old. Over the years I experimented with pencils, markers, pastels, oils, acrylics, inks, and mixed media. I was and still am a HUGE fan of such Fantasy Artists as Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, Larry Elmore, and Keith Parkinson, just to name a few. I often would sit and draw fantasy creatures and castles along with some surrealistic landscape visions. About 25 years ago I started learning to airbrush and added that to my repertoire. You can see the heavy airbrush influence and use throughout many of my recent realistic paintings. Recently I have experimented with Mixed Media and abstract art as a way...
