Painting - Acrylic Paint, Inks, And Collage On Canvas
Description
Being a HUGE Salvadore Dali fan I wanted to create this piece in a surrealistic style using hand painting and airbrushing combined with collage techniques. I felt by using these techniques I could achieve a realistic and surrealistic look to the finished piece which is so apparent in Dali's work. On a 24 by 20 by 1.5 inch gallery wrapped canvas I started with an airbrushed background using acrylic paints and acrylic inks. Next came the collage elements applied with rubber cement. I used magazine cutouts for the city scene money and jewels. Then I attached some small metal gear like objects to add to the "industry like" feel I wanted in the piece. Finally I hand painted the chains and steel cables attached to the smoke stacks.
The idea or story I want the viewer to feel is our struggle between the use of fossil fuels which are non-renewable, and our slow attempt to develop alternatives. We seem to be "chained" to these antiquated forms of fuel for power and I believe it is mostly due to Corporate Greed. Only by breaking these chains can we truly not only be free? but save our planet. This piece would make a great conversation starter and the vibrant color palette lends itself to almost any decor.
